Calling all artists for this amazing opportunity to access the beautiful equines and landscape of Rosemary Farm Sanctuary for your artistic endeavors! Come for the weekend or just a session - The horses, mules, and donkey are ready to be your muses!

Artists!
Come join Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, for a special painting and drawing opportunity with the Sanctuary residents! This special weekend is reserved for YOU. Painting stations will be set up with unique access to our residents, including a ‘donkey station’, a buckboard and horse in gear, and wild horse viewing. There will also be some ’still life’ displays arranged with farm and equine equipment. We will have equine handlers and staff moving horses from different spots throughout the day, allowing for multiple studies and photo opportunities to support continued studio work based on the weekend efforts. We are thrilled to be able to set up this special painters' weekend!
A select number of tickets are available for this weekend event. Rain or shine. There will be indoor and outdoor painting locations, and several time slots for you to sign up for! Join us for the Saturday daytime, or a special Saturday Sunset slot, or Sunday early bird! Limited spots available, sign up for one or all! And, as a bonus for those staying overnight, an invited bonfire at the Sanctuary on Saturday evening will make it an extra special weekend.

Weekend schedule:

Special Friday evening Sunset Tour, 6 pm (separate ticketed event). For those staying the weekend in the area, sign up for a special Friday evening tour of Rosemary Farm Sanctuary! This will allow you to fully appreciate the equines you are painting and see some of the potential painting locations available on Saturday (hint; if you see a spot not on the list, ask if it may be possible for you!)

Saturday daytime 9 am- 2 pm: The first painting session! There will be several designated painting locations with set ups just for you, including; a buckboard and a Doctor’s Buggy set up for study, and horses in harness to add to your completed work (please note, these will be retired horses and will not be actually pulling anything, nor will there be any buggy or carriage rides! This is for gentle study). There will also be mules in an area for longear fans, and access to viewing some of our wild mustangs. Station specifics may change depending upon weather and availability of horses!

Farm closed for all painters and guests from 2 pm - 5 pm (chores and rest!). Exception; Those staying at our AirBnB will have continued access to some horses from their backyard.

Saturday sunset 5 pm - 8 pm: The long golden light of the farm in summer is just gorgeous and everything will look different. The evening session will focus on areas of the farm that particularly glow, with the horses heading out to enjoy the mountains for the evening

Invited bonfire after 8 pm at the Sanctuary for any artists working both Saturday and Sunday. There will be snacks! Painting discussion likely!

Sunday early bird 8 am - noon: You will likely find yourself up early with the sun here, so this is a great opportunity to review or visit again anything started on Saturday, or take the time to visit a new area for different painting!

Sunday Wrap up! noon- 1 pm Optional wrap up discussion and sharing of art!

Once your slot is reserved, you may show up when you desire during that session. PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE WELCOME CENTER, for each session, so we know who is on the property. Artists are not required or expected to work for the entire session. Different equines and set ups will be available depending upon the weather, heat and time of day! If a specific equine or set up is desired, be sure to ask!

Any one session is $50, or 20% off for two or more painting sessions!

Other Notes:

  • While not a ‘classroom setting’, there will be some tutor and peer support available. Beginners welcome, with their own supplies. A select number of easels may be available for loan onsite, please ask in advance.
  • Tea, water and coffee provided. Bathroom onsite.
  • Please do not bring pets.
  • Cameras encouraged, to document settings for further studio work at home.
  • This event is not ideal for children, but 12 yo and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult, and both are ticketed.

Access requirements

The event is based outside with live models. There are alternate indoor spots and covered porches for inclement weather. Rain or shine, no refunds unless there is extreme weather and roads are closed (don’t laugh it happened once already this year!). This is a working farm; there are uneven surfaces, poo, hay, and people continuing daily chores. Care must be taken working around live animals. Please bring all supplies needed for your work, comfort, and enjoyment. We strongly recommend suitable clothing and footwear for the weather (both heat and rain).

List of supplies one may bring or need for this event:

Portable easel, portable chair or stool, sun or rain umbrella, paints, charcoals, pencils or other preferred medium. Bottled water, paper towels. Clothing in layers (the mountains are very cool in the morning but will warm up!)

Trash cans provided, please leave the area clean!
