Help Rosemary Farm welcome a trio, saved from tragedy

Our friends at Skydog Sanctuary have been following a disturbing case for a year of a new "rescue", called ROAR (Red Orchard Animal Rescue Foundation) in Texas, a group that proves that having a non-profit EIN # does not make one an ethical or responsible operation. Links to the long story may help our supporters understand what has been going on behind the scenes, and what is finally being publicly shared. To read their longer account, you may visit the Skydog Facebook page (post on 2/06/25), or read the screenshots attached below.
To sum it up:
- New "rescue" took in a LOT of horses quickly, many fundraised by others. Many were mustangs, horses that needed rescue and protection
- Conditions became dire, reports about the health of the horses began circulating, along with several stallions circulating, impregnating the mares
- Law enforcement became involved
- Over 60 horses moved to a different property and began recovery, with Skydog funding care
- Many then moved to a different rescue, but were recalled when there was an ownership question
- Local dealer, and friend of the rescue, produced a receipt claiming to have purchased 80 or so of the horses, sold for approximately $25 TOTAL
- Local authorities honored the receipt
- Dealer took possession of said horses and immediately began selling in groups at the local auction
- Many have disappeared
- Behind the scenes, Skydog organized the re-rescue of as many as possible, and quietly asked other rescues to help
- Rosemary Farm Sanctuary said yes
- Skydog held a birthday fundraiser to send funds to the participating rescues, a very generous gift
- The trio that Rosemary Farm has said yes to arrive next week! Wait until you see them, and hear their full stories
NOW it's our turn.
We are juggling dueling intense emotions, those of horror that anyone waving around the flag of rescue would put back into harm's way, horses that were already rescued once, horses that others wanted to help, horses that needed protection. Conversely, we are in awe of the intense commitment of Clare and Skydog, in working to protect mustangs and other horses in dire need, and fundraising to give and give and give, to make things right for at least a few of those horses. Networking with a broader reach to other quality rescues and sanctuaries, and entrusting some of the horses to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, helps to increase the horses we are able to help.
So this is an amazing tale at both ends of the spectrum, the worst, and the best, of equine rescue.
THIS PAGE is for funds for the trio coming to Rosemary Farm, for continued care beyond the initial gift being sent from Skydog Sanctuary. There are stories to tell about these horses, these individuals, two with long history and one who is just beginning. Once they have arrived at Rosemary Farm we will share more, much more. We welcome YOUR HELP in creating the essential dowry to insure their continued care, as they become part of the Rosemary Farm family.
Thank you for caring, it truly matters.
What a journey for these horses, the few lucky ones, finally out of the cycle of flipping.
ROAR is still operating. To help alert the proper authorities about this ongoing concern, please visit the Skydog page for details and direct links.
